"I began making Thanksgiving Dinner at my own house in 1978, when I had three children under three. We had just moved to Albuquerque from Alamogordo, where we’d been accustomed to eating at my parents’ house for holidays. At first I couldn’t remember how to make the gravy from one Thanksgiving to the next, and it never turned out right. Now it is one of my signature dishes. I always serve the same dishes every Thanksgiving, right down to the desserts and the cognac.
We’ve got a staff of great cooks here at Mothering, and several of them share their favorite holiday recipes with us as well. Cynthia Mosher, our webmaster, offers a cookie recipe for Eid Al-Adha, and Candace Walsh, our new articles editor, offers a classic challah recipe for Hanukkah celebrations. Ashisha, our retiring articles editor, remembers her favorite grandmother’s cookies. And Kimber Pasquali, our Web and resource editor, offers an elegant holiday entrée. Some of us, however, keep holidays simple; and our art director, Laura Egley Taylor, is a master at this. She gives us a few words of wisdom on eclectic family holiday celebrations."
